Shopping in Viterbo
By Sammy Browne, USAC Student
Viterbo has the best shopping for a town of its size I’ve seen thus far. Outside and Inside the walls there are stores for any occasion. Since Viterbo is a town of authentic Italian tradition sores generally classes from 1-3:30 allowing the store owners to eat lunch with their families and enjoy a break. The best time I’ve experienced shop begins at 5 then ends the day of splurging with going out to dinner around 7:30.
Inside the walls there is also a good mix of local boutiques. Being in a smaller town gives you the ability to really get to know the owners and employees on a more personal level than if it was a big city and everyone was rushing around. Each store owner has a personal pride for all their products and is more than happy to assist with any shoppers problems.
Even though there isn’t a shortage of small boutiques there are also larger chain stores as well. There is Kiko makeup, H&M, and my personal favorite Swarovski. Another chain that has become a favorite of the students is Subdued. It’s similar to a Brandy Melvile but with more unique clothing designs and options. They have a nice, always changing selection of graphic tees, unique jewelry, and cute accessories. It’s trendy designs and good quality keep everyone coming back for more. The bigger stores are kept very clean and the employees are all still friendly and helpful.
Besides the smaller boutique and well known chain stores there are also a few stores that carry luxury name products. Elena Della Roca and Eleonora Bonucci are two that specialize in anything from Burberry to Yves Saint Laurent. Their stores are like a typical high end boutique with beautiful displays and attentive staff. In Elena Della Roca there is a bigger selection of brands. Her beautiful Gucci display with items ranging from t-shirts to purses has always caught my eye as well as her Balenciaga items. In Eleonora Bonucci the store has a more uniform classical feel. The wall of individually spaced Yves Saint Laurent purses is not only tempting but also aesthetically pleasing.
Overall the stores offered in this town make it one of my favorite places to shop. The variety of stores means there is something offered for everyone for every occasion. Corso Italia is one of the main streets to shop on where almost all of the stores mentioned in this article are found.0
