Lake Alviano is a manmade lake located just 45 minutes away from Viterbo that is home to many birds, insects, fish and amphibians. For an hour and a half my class was led on a tour through different birdwatching stations where we had the opportunity to see a great egret, little bittern, mallard ducks and swans to name a few.
I really enjoyed this tour because our tour guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgable about what we were seeing which helped the whole class be exciting. I also thought it was very interesting to see that some species found here in the Tuscia region are also found where I am from in California.
I have been lucky enough to learn that Fall in the Mediterranean is an amazing time to do outdoor adventures. We went to Lake Alviano mid-morning which was the perfect temperature to enjoy the birdwatching and the hike, not too hot and not too cold. Overall the lake was a perfect combination of beautiful, educational and outdoorsy.0
