Nightlife in Viterbo
By Sammy Browne, USAC Student
Viterbo itself has a surprisingly good nightlife scene for being a smaller town. Wednesday through Saturday night there are a multitude of wine tasting restaurants, bars, and the occasional club open. Wednesday night is the best time to walk down the street and do some window shopping, the street is bustling with people.
If the bar scene is what you desire then Winter garden otherwise known as Magnamagna is arguably the most modern bar in viterbo with the front brightly lit up it’s hard to miss. There is always a big crowd outside sitting down, having a drink, or catching up with friends. The atmosphere is modern, the drinks are good, and the indoor upstairs seating is nice when its cold or raining outside. Right around the corner is Due Righe Book Bar nicknamed “Book Bar” for the wall of books inside. It is a good meeting point between Magnamagna and Al Settantasette and has the best cosmo I’ve tried.
Ask any student and they will immediately say go to Al Settantasette. Many articles have been written about the owner/bartender extrordanair Manfredi and how it is a local favorite. The atmosphere is not only unique but watching the drinks being made is an experience in itself. The menu is constantly changing and every new addition is more delicious than the last. The newest winter addition and my personal favorite, the Truffle special is one of the most unique drinks I’ve ever tried. If you’re looking for a show ask for the “Dragon shots” or a bloody mary and watch the magic begins.
If you’re looking for a casual dinner and drinks I would recommend the restaurant near Magnamagna called Il Gargolo. On a warm day sitting out with string lights above you and Magnamagna next to you creates the perfect atmosphere. Then wine selection is incredible, the food, especially the steak is fantastic according to my friends and the service is incredible. The second place and my personal favorite is Osteria del Vecchio Orologio. There are many vegetarian options and the dry white wine our server recommended to us was not only affordable at €16 but also gave me a new love for dry white wines.
Besides amazing bars and great restaurants Viterbo aslo has the Fly Club. It is a cozy establishment that hosts college nights every Wednesday and regular clubbing Saturday night with techno music. It is a great place to meet up with friends when you’re in the mood to dance or listen to fun music.
